The 2018 General Elections can be held as early as 20th May.
This has been confirmed by the Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem during the Straight Talk, talkback show with Legend FM News Director Vijay Narayan on our sister station, Viti FM.
Saneem says that this can only happen if the Writ of Elections is issued straight after April 6th.
Saneem says that the 2013 constitution states that the elections can be held following the conclusion of three year six months of the first sitting of parliament which was 6th October 2014.
He says the announcement of the elections date can take place from the 6th of April to the 22nd of November this year.
The Constitution states that the Prime Minister will then inform the President on when to issue the Writ of Election.
