“There is no doubt that we are on track to grow our economy by up to 3 percent this year, despite the huge task ahead of us to rebuild Fiji.”
This is the statement made by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama while opening the 2016 Fijian Tourism Expo in Nadi today.
Bainimarama said in the first quarter of 2016, Fiji received a total of 158,069 visitors which is an increase of 10.2% compared to the same period last year.
He added that in March alone, visitor arrivals totaled to 55,977 which is up by 9.7% for the same period last year.
Bainimarama said Fiji is set for another good year for tourism both in numbers and earnings.
He mentioned that this achievement is a testament to the success of the way the tourism industry swung into action to minimise the impact of cyclone Winston on visitor numbers.
Bainimarama added that he is proud of leading the nation during one of the most challenging times in history due to the examples set by the Fijian people.
Meanwhile the three day event will have 149 international buyers from 19 countries with 112 sellers.
