Farmers and livestock owners are advised to firmly secure their animals at all times and to contact the nearest Animal Health and Production Office of the Ministry of Agriculture to make applications for their own animal brands.
The Ministry has begun its week-long stray animal campaign in the Northern Division.
They have carried out its stray animal campaign last week beginning in the districts of Nabouwalu, Bua, Korokadi, Dreketi and Seaqaqa in the provinces of Bua and Macuata.
Permanent Secretary for Agriculture Jitendra Singh says the Ministry continues to place special emphasis on the issue of stray animals and this week-long Northern Division stray animal campaign is indicative of their stance.
Singh says they have continuously advised farmers and livestock owners to take ownership of their animal and this is one such avenue whereby the issue of stray animals can be resolved through these measures.
In this new financial year, the Ministry of Agriculture has allocated a total of $1,370,000 for Stray Animal Control Campaign.
The ministry has programmes to assist livestock farmers in infrastructural development and pasture improvement on farms that will help eliminate stray livestock.
