Waiting to see the doctor or nurse does not seem so bad if the reasons for the wait are explained.

These are the sentiments of the Minister of Health and Medical Services Rosy Akbar while speaking at the graduation ceremony of College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.

Akbar says she often receives complaints about people’s experiences of the health system.

The Minister says that she takes these complaints seriously and also recognises that there are many more people whose experience of our health system is entirely positive.

Akbar says when she looks at what drives many people to complain she sees a constant theme of poor communication.

The minister urged the students to maintain the highest standards of professionalism.

Fiji National University Chancellor Iqbal Janiff says this is the largest number of students to graduate in a single ceremony.

A total of 1,800 students graduated.

37-year-old Sione Pifeleti who was given the most outstanding student award in the Master of Surgery award, says he is happy that he no longer has to stay away from his wife and two kids.

Pifeleti who is originally from Tonga but is currently residing in Samoa says he struggled a lot trying to study here in Fiji while his family was in Samoa.
