Animals that are captured under the Ministry of Agriculture’s Stray Animal Control campaign are auctioned if they are not claimed within 10 days.
This has been clarified by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Owners who go to the pound to claim their animals have to pay certain charges namely pound fee, notice fee, feeding fee and distance fee.
The Ministry of Agriculture has allocated a total of $1.3 million for the Stray Animal Control Campaign.
It began its stray animal campaign in the Northern Division last week.
Assistant Minister for Agriculture Viam Pillay had said there is an increasing number of stray animals cases reported to the Ministry on a daily basis.
He had said it is also a challenging exercise as some animals are too wild and dangerous to capture.
