Four new storage spaces have been constructed for the Fiji Red Cross Society for the storage of emergency relief supplies.
The Ministry of National Disaster and Management today signed a memorandum of understanding with the Fiji Red Cross Society for the construction of forward storage bases for disaster relief supplies.
The storage spaces are located in Koro, Vanuabalavu, Lakeba and Kadavu.
The emergency relief supplies that will be stored at the bases include black packs, cooking sets, tarpaulins, blankets, collapsible water containers and shelter tool kits.
Permanent Secretary for National Disaster and Management Meleti Bainimarama states that Fiji is committed to building resilience against these natural hazards and the Government has taken a firm and committed stance to ensure that communities are safer and better prepared.
Fiji Red Cross Society Acting Director General Dr. Setareki Vatucawaqa says that through the memorandum they are able to extend to the most difficult and hard to reach areas in Fiji such as the eastern division.
