The Ministry of Health Food Unit is coordinating a joint operation with government health inspectors and town and city council health inspectors around the country to inspect, condemn and dispose of food items damaged during Tropical Cyclone Evan.
Using standard operating procedures for food safety during natural disasters, authorities are working to ensure that the public is not put at risk in contracting food related illnesses.
The team's focus has been on frozen food damaged due to power outages. Similar exercises are being carried out in Nausori, Navua, the Suva Nausori corridor and the Northern division.
The Ministry of Health has also called on the public to be vigilant when purchasing items or goods sold at cheap prices around the country and ensure that these goods were not damaged from the recent cyclone.
