The recent 10% increase in wages for those industrial sectors covered under the ten Wages Regulation Orders will have to be backdated from the 1st of this month.
Fiji Wages Council Chairperson Father Kevin Barr said the implementation of the wage regulation is long overdue as there have been delays due to lobbying from various employers.
Father Barr said if we are to address poverty in the country then decent wages should be provided for the workers.
This includes the hotel and catering, Garment, saw milling and logging industries along with the mining, printing, wholesale and retail and the security services sectors.
