The Attorney General said the International Bar Association's Human Rights Institute's concerns and complaints on the latest decree are all misplaced.
Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum makes these comments in reply to the International Bar Association's Human Rights Institute saying that the recent actions in Fiji are yet another step away from an independent legal profession.
Sayed-Khaiyum said it seems the IBA's comments are only from a few lawyers in Fiji.
IBA Executive Director Mark Ellis has said the latest decree may be the death knell to an independent legal profession.
These comments are all regarding the Legal Practitioners Decree 2009, passed by the President last week stating that the annual issue of practicing certificates to lawyers will now be done by the Chief Registrar and not the Fiji Law Society.
