The appeal hearing of former Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase will be heard before the Fiji Court of Appeal today.
Qarase is appealing his conviction and one year sentence.
In the brief preliminary application, Qarase’s lawyer, Tupou Draunidalo earlier said that she is looking at 17 grounds of appeal.
She claimed that there was miscarriage of justice and lawyers were confused in the trial.
However, FICAC lawyer Vinsent Parera said Draunidalo does not specify how there was miscarriage of justice and stressed that FICAC lawyers were not confused in the trial.
Parera told the court that none of the grounds of appeal are arguable and should be dismissed.
Qarase was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by High Court Judge, Justice Priyantha Fernando in August last year after he was found guilty of six counts of abuse of office and three counts of discharging his duty with respect to property in which he had a private interest.
