Six people charged with the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl on Monday night appeared in the Rakiraki Magistrates court today.

Three of the accused aged 35, 21 and 19 years have been remanded in custody at the Natabua Prison while the two form five students and the class 8 student are being brought over to Suva to be remanded at the Juvenile Remand center.

The case has been transferred to the Lautoka High Court where it will be called on the 8th of May.

The alleged incident occurred when the student was returning from her aunt’s place.

It is alleged that two of the accused had forcefully taken the 16-year-old girl from near the village church and led her to a small shed at a sugar cane field where the other four were waiting.

Following the alleged rape the victim informed her grandfather.

Police Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro said an attempt to seek forgiveness by the suspects through a presentation of yaqona was refused by the victim’s mother upon which a report was lodged at the Rakiraki Police Station.
