The collective firefighting efforts of four fire station teams were needed to help contain and prevent a fire from spreading at the Tebara Shopping Plaza in Nakasi last night.
National Fire Authority CEO, John O’Connor said upon arrival at the scene a supermarket bulk storage area was on fire and they tried their best to contain it.
However, they had issues with their hydrant following which they had to sought assistance from other stations including help from Water Authority of Fiji and Airports Fiji Limited.
O’Connor said due to combustible items the fire spread throughout the supermarket but with much needed help they managed to stop it from spreading to other outlets within the complex.
He said the fire was completely dosed off by 4this morning after which investigations have started to ascertain cause of fire.
Meanwhile, 70 workers of the supermarket have been affected by this incident however according to the Supermarkets Operations they have assured no one will be laid off.
They say all these workers will be utilized in their other 16 outlets around Fiji.
