A big challenge that the Ministry of Fisheries and Forests is facing right now is the illegal fishing.
As the Ministry celebrates World Fisheries Day, plans have been set out to villagers, communities and Non-government organizations to conserve these fishing grounds.
Senior Research Officer for Fisheries Department, Sunia Waqainabete said that they are working with different departments to address this problem.
Meanwhile, Minister for Youth and Sports Commander Viliame Naupoto is happy to see that Theme of this year's World Fisheries Day recognizes the important role that youth and women play in every aspect of our daily lives whether as a family, community or as a nation.
Naupoto said that the very important issue of fisheries can be addressed through conservation and management especially for a maritime nation like Fiji.
More than hundred reps from across the country attended the celebrations today including reps form the north, western southern and eastern.
