The nurses must remember they are part of a privileged class.
Those are the words of the Health Minister Doctor Neil Sharma while answering questions raised by the Fiji Nurses Association on nurses not receiving a back pay in the last 10 years.
According to the Minister the nurses have received two pay-rises including the one for this year.
The Health Minister further added that incentives provided to nurses in the rural areas include free accommodation along with free electricity and water.
Meanwhile, a new system of remuneration called the Annual Performance Assessment will be introduced by next year where nurses will be remunerated based on commitment and performance.
Another incentive will include bonuses and overseas attachments for up skilling and training are also efforts to reward nurses and improve patient care.
