Defending champion Wardens Gold has had a slow start on the opening day of the Coral Coast Sevens after being held to a 12-all draw by Naviti in their last pool match yesterday.

Laced with the services of former sevens rep Apisai Nayabo and Rusiate Tadulala, they struggled in their earlier match beating Red Rock Two 12-0.

Meanwhile, Redrock One and Tokatoka Westfield Barbarians look good to proceed to the Cup final stages of the tournament after recording impressive victories.

Also impressive was Pio Tuwai’s Westfield Barbarians thrashing Navy 33-0.

Other impressive teams that are likely to make it to the quarterfinals include the Aussie Thunderbolts, Tonga Aoniu and the Serevi Select team.

The competition kicks off at 9 this morning with Pacific Two Blues taking on Lady Babas in the Women’s Division.

The men’s competition will start at 9:40am with Sunnybank facing Red Rock Two.

Tomorrow you can catch live commentaries of all the Cup quarterfinals, semifinals and final on our sister station Viti FM.
