Fiji was part of the world that got a chance to see the first of four sightings of a red or blood moon yesterday evening.
For those in Suva there was a blanket of clouds during the early part of the evening, but soon there was a break in the clouds to allow many to catch a glimpse of the spectacular or even strange sight.
The blood moon is a lunar eclipse which casts a red glow on the moon as the Earth passes between the moon and the sun.
There will be few more chances at spotting additional lunar eclipses over the next year and a half, with a sighting expected on the 8th of October this year.
Two more will occur in 2015 on April 4th and Sept 28th, each occurring at six month intervals.
According to NASA it is rare to have so many total eclipses in a single year.
In fact you would have to go back 300 years in time before the 20th century to find a similar pattern.
