With the Fiji School Leaving Certificate Examination results released today, 42 students have received zero marks in a paper for being involved in malpractice during this examination.
Acting Minister for Education Commander Viliame Naupoto confirmed this saying these students from around 5 schools have been given zero following confirmation from the Exams Office that malpractice had occurred.
Naupoto said all cases have been looked into properly and the same procedure followed during the Form 7 examination results was applied with evidence provided that wrong means had been undertaken.
He said he has already spoken with the Permanent Secretary Dr Brij Lal on emphasizing on prevention methods going forward such as providing more supervisors and having proper exam rooms.
Dr Brij Lal is expected to comment on this later.
Meanwhile, 8 of the 11 students of Labasa Sangam School who obtained zero marks in their Fiji Seventh Form Biology paper have agreed to re-sit the paper.
One of the parents of the students Umesh Kumar said this is the only option left for them as hunger strikes or arguments will not solve the matter.
Kumar said they have sent a letter to the Education Ministry today requesting to be informed on the location, date and time to re-sit the Biology paper.
He hopes for speedy action so that his daughter can focus on her future plans.
