Police are in the final stage of their investigation regarding the suspension of two police officers at the Lautoka Police Station for the alleged assault of a minor.
Police Director of Operations ACP Rusiate Tudravu said the two officers have been charged with disciplinary offences and are now awaiting an internal tribunal proceeding.
A complaint was lodged by a woman against police officers at the Lautoka Police Station, in an incident where her son who happens to be a minor was allegedly threatened and assaulted in a case of alleged theft.
An internal investigation was carried out following which it was found that the two officers had allegedly breached police practices and procedures in dealing with a person kept in police custody.
Meanwhile, police are also investigating two complaints of alleged false information being given regarding cases of alleged police brutality in the West.
Tudravu said following a revelation of these two incidents in one of the local papers, the Internal Affairs Department conducted an investigation which then revealed that the allegations made of police brutality were not true.
He said action will be taken against those who lodge complaints of false information.
At the first quarter parade last week statistics revealed that a total of 246 complaints were made against police, 71 of these were recorded for the Western Division.
