1yr old believed to be latest drowning victim

A one year old girl is believed to be the latest drowning victim after she was found floating in a fish pond yesterday.

The incident occurred yesterday at around 5pm at Naila in Tailevu.

The victim who was the youngest of six children was at home with her five older brothers and sisters when she allegedly went outside towards the fish pond located 10 metres from their home.

A neighbor made the discovery upon which the 36-year-old father who was training at a nearby school ground was informed.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the Police are once again pleading with parents and guardians to ensure their children are well supervised at all times.

She said in this case the victim was left in the care of her older brothers and sisters, the eldest being a Form 3 student.

The current drowning toll stands at 20 compared to 19 for the same period last year.
