A 38 year old carpenter died in an early morning fire earlier today while a 51 year old businessman is fighting for his life.

The incident occurred at around 1am at a clothing shop at Main Street, Nadi when the carpenter was carrying out some carpentry work with the 51 year old shop owner.

Police say upon arrival at the scene the 51 year old man was found lying on the main street and he informed police of the carpenter who was still trapped inside.

However due to extreme heat the 38-year-old could not be rescued.

The 51 year old has sustained 75% burns and is currently admitted at the Lautoka Hospital.

The clothing shop is destroyed while a nearby shop also sustained damage as a result.
