A tsunami warning was canceled following a 7.6 magnitude earthquake that struck near the Solomon Islands.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center based in Hawaii had issued a warning for the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu in the South Pacific, but later lifted it.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake, initially estimated at a magnitude 8.3, occurred at a depth of about 29 kilometers.
