A number of issues were discussed during the forum held at Suvavou House today in relation to Tertiary Education Loans Scheme.

More than 100 students and parents met with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, members of the Tertiary Education Loans Scheme Board and other senior government officials on the various processes involved in disbursing of funds for students to begin or continue studies under the loan scheme.

Other issues raised during the forum also included disbursement of funds for book allowance, guarantors for students who qualify for students loan and changing of course which may affect students eligibility for loans.

The Prime Minister’s Office Permanent Secretary, Pio Tikoduadua said that Bainimarama expressed concern that the issues faced by students needed to be addressed to ensure their education is not disrupted.

62-year-old Ranjeet Singh of Bau Road Nausori also met with the Prime Minister and raised concerns about his son’s education.

Singh said his son completed his Diploma in Education in 2012 however due to no place for teaching, he stayed home until last year and was under a waiting list.

He said he advised his son to complete his degree in education and apply for TELS.

Singh said his son is now studying for his Bachelor of Education but his loan was not approved due to overdue fees for his course.

He said he is fortunate to have met with the Prime Minister who sat and listened to their concerns.

He said he has been assured that his son’s loan will be approved.

Meanwhile, students who require assistance or clarification in relation to the loan scheme can also email to admin@tslb.com.fj.
