The five percent increase in the University of the South Pacific’s tuition fees from next year will be across the board.
The USP Council recently approved a 5 percent increase in the University’s tuition fees for next year.
Vice Chancellor Professor Rajesh Chandra said the increase in fees is applicable for new and continuing students.
Chandra said it is only a one off increase until the next review in 2016 and aims to recover some of the costs of inflation since 2009 and over the next 3 years.
Fijivillage has raised questions on the increase and the effect it may have on the current and incoming students.
Professor Chandra said this is a very modest increase and USP is mindful of its students and the new fees will remain constant till 2015 to allow parents and students to plan their investments in education.
Chandra said the University usually increases its fees in light of increasing costs of teaching and services in line with the rates of inflation in member countries.
The increase will come into effect from 1st January 2013.
