More nurses are expected to be trained under the Foot Care Project who will be working with diabetic patients to reduce the rate of amputations in Fiji.

One amputation is done every 12 hours in Fiji.

Foot care Project started in the central division in January this year and according to Diabetes Fiji Chairperson Dr. Wahid Khan they are planning to introduce the program in the Western and Northern Divisions.

Dr. Khan said their target is to empower people to take care of their feet.

He added this is a four year program where their plan is to train 24 nurses every quarter.

The first set of nurses graduated in Foot Care on Saturday.
