The National Fire Authority has recorded a decrease in structural fires for 2012.
According to CEO John O’Connor, National Fire Authority recorded 95 structural fires as compared to 106 structural fires in 2011.
However, O’Connor said that the authority is still very much concerned with the 95 structural fires where 12 lives were lost compared to 2 lives lost in 2011.
O’Connor also raised NFA’s concern in relation to home fires which continue to happen from the unattended cooking, candles/prayer diyas, mosquito coils left unattended and children playing with matches.
O’Connor said that the authority will be conducting awareness programs this year including visits to schools, settlements and villages.
