The new Social Pension Scheme for people over 70 years will not be available for those previously employed or were recipients of any form of pension funds.
This is according to the Ministry of Social Welfare permanent secretary Govind Sami while stressing how measurements will be put in place to eliminate those attempting to receive money from two sources.
Sami added that those eligible for the $30 monthly assistance under the scheme are farmers, fishermen, village dwellers and also includes those who have no cash income or formal employment.
Meanwhile, a MOU was signed today between the FNPF and the Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation regarding information sharing on the Social Pension Scheme for the elderly.
