Police said four prisoners were trying to escape with remand prisoner Deshwar Dutt yesterday.
Dutt is still on the run after scaling the Suva Correction Centre wall and jumping over the fence at about 2.30pm yesterday.
We have received confirmation that four others were also scaling the wall.
They were caught as some fell down while others were trapped in the fence.
Meanwhile, an internal investigation is now underway to determine how Dutt managed to escape.
Dutt of Waituri, Nausori, was in remand for his alleged role as the driver of the getaway vehicle used in the September Samabula BSP robbery.
This is the second escape where the prisoners have gotten out of the Suva Correction Centre by climbing the fence.
We have asked the Fiji Correction Services to explain why these escapes are taking place and how the Corrections Officers could not notice Dutt escaping at 2.30pm.
The Fiji Correction Services is expected to comment tomorrow as Commissioner Lieutenant Colonel Iferemi Vasu is currently out of the country.
Road blocks have been erected and a team from the Police Special Response Unit has been deployed around the Southern, Central and Eastern divisions.
