A father of six is relieved that his children are safe and well after a fire completely destroyed their home this morning at Kalekana Lami.
The six were included in the eight people that escaped from harm when three bedroom house was destroyed.
Nemani Savaverevere said while at work, he received a call around 10am that his house was on fire.
Savaverevere said that he rushed home to see his family and was happy that nobody got hurt.
According to the 29 year old father of six, what hurt him the most was that he had already completed school shopping for four of his children that will be going to school this year in which the items were all destroyed.
This is the first fire incident recorded for the New Year and investigation is underway to determine the cause of fire.
NFA were able to contain the fire from spreading to nearby homes.
Meanwhile, 12 people lost their lives in fire incidents last year out of which seven were children.
National Fire Authority Chief Executive Officer, John O’Connor said any life lost as a result of fire is unacceptable as it cannot be replaced.
95 structural fires were recorded last year.
NFA is also raising concern in relation to home fires as a result of unattended cooking, candles, prayer diyas, mosquito coils and children playing with matches.
