Namosi Joint Venture, which currently holds the prospecting license for the proposed Namosi Copper Mine, has been asked by government to implement some corrective measures at the site before further decisions are made on the exploration work.
Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office Colonel Pio Tikoduadua said the Prime Minister met with Namosi Joint Venture (NJV) and the landowners yesterday, and it has been agreed that NJV has to carry out the necessary rehabilitation work emanating from the prospecting.
Colonel Tikoduadua said these issues need to be addressed first before a decision is made on the resumption of the Environmental Impact Assessment and the prospecting works.
Colonel Tikoduadua explained that the corrective measures need to be taken as they concern environmental issues arising from the exploration works and other landowners’ grievances.
Namosi Joint Venture is expected to comment later today.
Stay with us as we will have more later this afternoon on the exploration works at the proposed Namosi Copper Mine site.
