Work is progressing well on the major $220 million road project from Nabouwalu to Dreketi in the North.
The new road will open up a whole new world for the people in the Northern division and bring many opportunities for them.
Many people are already opting to catch the boat to Nabouwalu from Natovi and then drive through to Labasa or Savusavu.
This option was rarely considered in the past.
Fiji Roads Authority Chief Executive Officer, Neil Cook said work is progressing well on the biggest road project in Fiji.
Cook said Natovi Jetty which is a key link to the North and the outer islands will also undergo a significant upgrade.
They are also working on the construction of the Rakiraki Bridge which is expected to be completed by next year.
They have also carried out some major road works at Harris road, Lami and Laucala Bay Road.
Meanwhile Cook stressed that they are working hard on their renewals and maintenance road projects which will cost about $160 million.
He said this is absolutely necessary to rescue Fiji’s road network.
The Fiji Roads Authority which received the highest budget allocation of $422 million in 2013 has been provided with an increased budget of $454.7 million this year.
