Japanese govt donates 4 desalination plants worth $3.5M
Four Islands which depend on rain as their main source of water will now benefit from the desalination plant through which sea water can be distilled into safe drinking water.

The Japanese Government has donated four desalination plants worth $3.5 million.

According to Water Authority of Fiji Chief Executive Officer, Opetaia Ravai, the four plants will be sent to Kia, Viwa, Vanua Vatu and Karewa Islands.

He said four villagers were provided training on how to operate the plant.

One of the villagers from Karewa Island, Emosi Time said their only source of water is rain water and they face a lot of difficulties during dry weather.

He said this plant will help them a lot and he is thankful to the authority who considered their Island first.
