In its mission to protect endangered species in Fiji, the Nature Fiji Mareqeti Viti will continue to search for the red throated Lorikeet (the Kulawai) which they fear may already be extinct as there has been no confirmed sighting since 1993.
Nature Fiji today presented their first ever State of Bird report to government and Director Nunia Thomas said the Kulawai is a major concern for them.
Meanwhile, the island of Kadavu has the highest number of endemic birds per land area in the world.
The Nature Fiji Mareqeti Viti is one of the several non government organizations that is working with the government in creating awareness to protect our environment.
