FRU declines resignation of Dakuidreketi

The Fiji Rugby Union has declined the resignation of CEO Keni Dakuidreketi after receiving advice on the affairs of the FRU from the International Rugby Board yesterday.

In a statement issued just moments ago, FRU Interim Board Chairman Rafaele Kasibulu said the board met this morning to discuss the IRB's recommendations.

He said the IRB has advised in the strongest terms that in light of the current prevailing circumstances, there should be no changes within the senior management structure of the FRU and so they have decided to decline Dakuidreketi's resignation.

The IRB has also told the FRU that the FRU needs to carefully consider if it is prudent to permit the Special General meeting to go ahead on January 29th and that any action in contravention of the FRU constitution will result in the Union potentially not remaining in good standing as a member of the Union of the IRB.

It said this may result in the IRB having to take a determination on the continued membership of the IRB of the Fiji Rugby Union.

The FRU board has thus decided to cancel the Special AGM and are now awaiting the arrival of senior IRB officials who want to meet with the current board members early next month.

In relation to the IRB Rugby World Cup lottery ticket saga, the IRB has noted that the FRU is contesting the findings of the Commerce Commission legally and it should remain a matter between the two parties.
