Major infrastructure projects have been announced for the province of Bua by Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama.
During his visit to Bua yesterday, Commodore Bainimarama revealed plans for the upgrading of the roads, water infrastructure and other facilities.
However he also made it clear to the people of Bua that they also have to play their part and work hard to ensure that there is progress in the province.
Paradise Tabucala reports from Vanua Levu.
Commdore Bainimarama also announced that a Fiji Development Bank office will be opened in Nabouwalu which will allow farmers access to small loans.
Commissioner Northern, Colonel Inia Seruiratu also stressed that the only way the government would help is when it would be certain that there would be a return on investment for the government.
He said the farmers need to take advantage of the land they have and plant dalo, yaqona and pine, and the government would provide the necessary assistance.
Meanwhile Commodore Bainimarama has revealed that the Native land Trust Board has given the green light for bauxite mining to start in Bua. Mining will commence by the end of this year.
It has also been revealed that a $12 million project is expected to get underway soon.
Talks are underway between the government and Vodafone Fiji for total mobile phone coverage in Bua.
This is after it was noted that whenever there is a natural disaster, there is a communication blackout for Bua.
The Prime Minister is expected speak to the people of Cakaudrove at Yaroi Village later today.
