A new leader for the new Social Democratic Liberal Party or SODELPA will be appointed by the newly elected Management Board during the party's General Assembly.
SODELPA's General Secretary, Pio Tabaiwalu said former Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase cannot contest the leadership position after his appeal on sentencing and conviction was dismissed by the Fiji Court of Appeal.
Tabaiwalu said under the Political Parties Decree, Qarase cannot be the party leader.
The General Assembly will be held at Khatriya Hall at 2pm this Thursday.
