Former Police Commissioner Commodore Esala Teleni has been appointed as Fiji's new Ambassador to China and replaces Sir James Ah Koy.
A government statement confirmed that Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama made the announcement following the granting by the Chinese Government of the Agreement earlier requested by the Fiji Government for Teleni's appointment.
Permanent Secretary for Information Sharon Smith Johns confirmed Commodore Teleni will take up the post by late next month.
The government statement further said that with Teleni's extensive security background as former Police Commissioner and former Deputy Commander of the RFMF, he is well placed to represent to the Chinese Government Fiji's Security needs in the Roadmap for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development.
Teleni is currently attached with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Suva undergoing preparatory briefing before he leaves for Beijing at the end of the year.
