The Consumer Council of Fiji has received 616 complaints regarding defective and faulty mobile phones from various outlets since 2008 till March 15th this year.
Consumers have lodged their complaints after the mobile phones malfunctioned within days use including problems such as phone features missing from promised advertisements, non-disclosure of information, replacement warranty, and speaker problems.
The council has so far resolved 478 cases either by repair, replacement or refund of money.
The Council is also advising consumers to purchase genuine phones from established mobile phone companies.
The Council is aware that there are traders who are selling refurbished phone as new and consumers must demand for a receipt after purchase of mobile phones and a user manual must also be included with the phone box.
