Renewable energy to be the next source of energy

Renewable energy to be the next source of energy
Renewable energy will be the next source of energy the government is looking into.

Helping the government achieve this, a new Vocational Training and Education for Clean Energy Center has been set up in USP.

The program was facilitated by USAID and Arizona State University to support the advancement of clean energy in the Pacific Islands.

US Ambassador to Fiji, Frankie Reed said that this program will help improve the sustainability of renewable energy investments and infrastructure in the Pacific region by increasing local awareness, knowledge and capacity in clean energy.

A representative from the Department of Energy in the Ministry of Works, Transport and Public Utility, Paula Katirewa who was part of the program says it has developed his skills in teaching people in the rural areas.

The US government contributed $1.5 million US dollars to the program which was also funded by other countries and stakeholders.

15 participants will be completing their two weeks training as instructors this weekend at the Vocational Center.
