Police are now looking for a wheelbarrow boy who is alleged to have threatened the 5yr old son of expatriate and demanded cash and other valuables from them yesterday.
Police Spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed that the suspect was a wheelbarrow boy from Navua and currently is in Suva. He said police are expected to arrest him soon.
Meanwhile, a group of eleven children who were in Namosi when the 5 yr-old boy was held hostage with an axe by the man, are still in shock and are having nightmares.
Fijivillage News spoke to a Doctor who was also part of the six families that were picnicking in Namosi and he said that the eleven children aged between five to nine years are still asking their parents on whether the man has been arrested or not.
Doctor Mark Rudel said the children were unable to sleep last night as they would wake up in the middle of the night and would ask questions in relation to the robbery.
According to Rudel the trauma will stay with the children for the whole of their lives and they need urgent counseling.
The family was having a picnic in the interior of Namosi when a man appeared from the bushes and grabbed the 5 year old boy, threatened to kill him with an axe while demanding items from the family.
The family then gave the man $300 cash, two digital cameras and other valuables worth more than $2,200. The man then took the son and left him about 10 metres away from where the family was. He also left the axe with the boy.
