The military is calling on the Methodist Church of Fiji to ensure that it promotes unity in the country and educates its members that everyone is equal.
Military spokesperson, Lt Colonel Neumi Leweni has made these comments after revealing that the RFMF has been reliably informed that there are elements within the church that have been planning to utilize the upcoming church conference to instigate instability.
Lt Colonel Leweni reminded the church that all citizens of the country are now known as Fijians and that is an indication of the RFMF and the government’s determination to unite every ethnic group in Fiji.
The military stressed the law will take its course if a member or delegate of the Methodist Church of Fiji conference engages in any unlawful activities.
Lt Colonel Leweni said the church Secretary has been told that the government’s intention is to cancel the meeting should the church deviate from the original agenda.
Methodist Church Assistant Secretary, Reverend Tevita Nawadra said no political issues will be discussed in the conference.
The church conference will be held at the Centennary Church in Suva from August 23rd to 25th.
