The Miss India Fiji pageant required contestants of Indian origin to participate as it was originally started by the people of Indian origin living in the Asia and Pacific countries.
Director of Miss India Fiji, Naziah Ali said this particular pageant is only for contestants of Indian origin.
Ali’s comment comes after questions being raised on why the competition is only for the contestants of one ethnic group when Fiji is on a path to call everyone Fijian and to ensure that equal opportunities are provided to all.
Ali said they are looking into organizing other events as well.
