Rakiraki bridge to close, no longer safe

Rakiraki bridge to close, no longer safe
The Rakiraki Bridge on the Kings Road near Rakiraki will be closed permanently this week as authorities have declared that it is no longer safe to use.

Fiji Roads Authority’s chief executive officer Neil Cook said the bridge is now beyond repair and is also expected to be demolished with a new one to be built within six months.

Meanwhile, the Roads Authority has prepared a traffic management plan to minimize traffic impacts and delays while the bridge is closed.

A diversion plan for traffic is also being prepared for those using the Kings Road with motorists to travel on an alternative route.
