The Public Service Commission has this afternoon confirmed that they are closely working with the Ministry of Health to improve the salaries and working conditions of Nurses and Doctors in Fiji.
PSC Permanent Secretary, Taina Tagicakibau told Fijivillage News that people attached in these two professions are migrating in high numbers and steps are now being taken to reduce this number.
The Interim Health Minister, Dr Jiko Luveni revealed earlier today that they are now working on their submissions and the improvement in the salaries is expected to take place this year.
Luveni adds Fiji is facing a lot of difficulties regarding the shortage of doctors and nurses and this measure is urgently needed.
The Fiji Nursing Association President Salanieta Matayavi said while the move is long overdue, they are really happy as alot of doctors and nurses are looking at migrating for greener pastures leaving a shortage in Fiji.
