Donations continue to come in for the Legend FM, FM96, Navtarang, Radio Sargam and Viti FM Walk On Walk Strong Campaign.
With the official event ending on Saturday, many are still donating towards the cause in trying to help raise money for children living with cancer and help the founders of Walk On Walk Strong accomplish the dream of the late Tae Kami.
People from all walks of life donated towards the CFL family’s Walk On Walk Strong nationwide radio appeal on Saturday.
Hundreds participated in the Nausori to Suva street appeal while thousands donated in Suva, Nausori, Rakiraki, Tavua, Ba, Lautoka, Nadi, Sigatoka, Navua and Labasa after hearing the stories about cancer patients and their families.
Many people were waiting for us when we arrived in the different towns and cities saying they want to play their part and assist in this worthy cause after hearing about the radio appeal.
In Lautoka, amongst the thousands who gave was a man on a wheelchair whose leg is amputated.
He asked his son to drop him off in the city so that he can come and see the CFL team and also make his donation.
A female beggar in Rakiraki donated $50 to our team based there over the weekend. A man whose wife suffers from cancer also donated. 80 Rakiraki drivers donated $375.
The wheelbarrow boys from the Suva market came forward and donated $100 saying that they wanted to play their part after hearing about what the children and their families are going through.
International School Suva gave $1,000 while a group of market vendors donated $15 from what they had just earned that morning.
Also the Newtown rugby club and the Ba Soccer Association raised funds for the cause.
CFL Business Development Manager Charles Taylor said the support and response from the public has been overwhelming.
Meanwhile, 15-year-old Tae Kami’s last wish before passing away is slowly becoming a reality.
Kami who battled with cancer for three years and passed away in 2008 had a wish that a Centre for children with cancer or long-term illness be set up.
Now her mother, Sina and father Taholo Kami have been raising funds through the cause to try and fulfill their daughter’s dream and help the children affected by cancer.
With the 2012 WOWS official appeal ending on Saturday, Sina Kami said if her daughter was alive she would have been very happy.
The CFL family thanks you for coming forward and assisting in this cause.
Further announcements on the total amount collected and other details will be released in the next few days.
