With only 3 weeks away from the first IRB tournament in Australia, defending IRB Sevens champions and New Zealand coach, Gordon Tietjens says Fiji should appoint a coach now as the series kicks off this month.
Tietjens said it is clear that all the other teams in the tournament are assembling and preparing their teams while Fiji is the only one left to select their coach.
FRU Board Chairman Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga earlier confirmed that selection will be done when the time is right as they still need to clear out other matters.
Out of all the applicants only current coach, Josateki Savou and Iliesa Tanivula have tasted IRB Sevens experience while the likes of Lote Rasiga, Sailosi Naiteqe Senior, Alifereti Dere, Watisoni Ratulevu and Penisoni Uluiviti have not been given a chance.
The coach who will be named will have less than two weeks to put a team together which is likely to be made up of those players that reached the FORU 7s final and seasonal players in the Police and Army team.
The first leg of the IRB Sevens is in Gold Coast on the 25th and 26th of this month.
