The rise in child abuse cases in the country has prompted a primary school in Suva to join in the fight to raise awareness about this important national issue.
Students of Saint Agnes Primary School will be out to portray their theme “child abuse, every child has a story” in the 2011 Tadra Kahani with connect this month.
According to Police statistics, child neglect is the leading form of child abuse in the country with a total of 703 cases reported for the years 2001 to 2010.
Following the abuse cases, sexual abuse ranks as the second highest with a total of 626 cases reported while 458 cases have been reported for physical abuse in the past 10 years.
Class eight student Olly No’ora said there will be tough competition from other schools in the Tadra Kahani but their main aim is to portray their message.
In the Junior Division, Defending Champions International School Suva, John Wesley Primary, Marcellin Primary, International School Nadi, St Agnes Primary, Tacirua Primary and Rishikul Primary will be taking part.
Tadra Kahani will be held on the 18th of this month.
