Taxi and Bus Fares will remain the same even though the Prices and Incomes Board has announced a massive decrease in fuel prices this afternoon.
Motor Spirit will now be $1.58 per litre from $1.98, a decrease by 40c, diesel will now cost $1.51 per litre from $1.70 a decrease by 19c.
Kerosene will now be $1.28 a litre from $1.46, a decrease of 18c while Premix Outboard fuel will cost $1.49 a litre from $1.90c, a decrease of 41c.
Fiji Taxi Union General Secretary Rishi Ram said they are happy with the massive decrease in fuel prices however their fares will remain the same even though they want an increase.
Fiji Bus Operators President, Pyara Singh said their fares will only be adjusted after a meeting with the Government as they have a Memorandum of Understanding based on the Cost Model Index.
Singh also said they are disappointed at the PIB's method of calculations resulting in the decreases as fuel prices now should be less.
Prices and Income Board Secretary, Ane Naulivou said they stand by their calculations as these are based on the assessment of the market for product prices.
Meanwhile, one of the Fuel Distributors, Supreme Fuel is happy with the decrease and its Managing Director, Rajesh Patel said this decrease will be a big relief for people.
The new fuel prices are to take effect from tomorrow, January 3rd, however please do note that the retail prices are expected to change as and when retailers replenish their stock after tomorrow.
Traders and consumers are advised that these prices will differ in other areas due to additional cartage and delivery costs.
PIB say that there are indications that these price decreases will continue in the next review in February.
